June 2013

Always in a hurry, in order to get my attention sometimes the Lord has to wake me up in the middle of the night to speak to me… Can I get a witness?! This happened very recently when this idea for a devotional blog for teachers just ‘dropped’ into my thoughts during one long, restless night.

Now, since I have made a few mistakes in my life when I thought I had heard from the Lord about this or that, I really (did I say REALLY?) questioned it. I mean who wants to put themselves out there if it isn’t actually from the Lord?  Seriously, I wanted it written on the broad side of a barn to know for sure. That is, of course, after it had been confirmed several times through a few Godly friends. Recall Gideon’s fleece?  Yep, that’s me!

To make a long story short, through a series of events, God did indeed confirm to me to “arise and build.” So here I go… (now would be a good time to pray for me!)

Just a few facts about me –
I have been a public school teacher for 10 years. Yay!
I love to teach!
I love the Lord more than anything!
I taught a lot of years in church (Sunday School, VBS, Youth) prior to becoming a school teacher. (This is where I discovered the Lord’s calling on my life.)
I have been married to my husband Keith for 25 years (26 on August 8!), and the Lord has blessed us with 4 beautiful children.

Please, please, please, share this with your teaching buddies if it blesses and encourages you, because that is God’s purpose for this blog.

God bless you in your classroom now and always,

Donna McBrayer

[Disclaimer alert: Mrs. McBrayer is not perfect and doesn’t know everything! Still trying to figure things out as she goes, she keeps pressing toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.]

  1. Hi Donna. Just wondering if you have ever submitted to Chicken Soup for the Soul. They are still taking submissions for “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inspiration for Teachers 101 Stories about How You Make a Difference.” Deadline for submissions is October 30. Here is their website for more information: http://www.chickensoup.com/story-submissions/possible-book-topics

Feel free to delete this comment after you read it. I didn’t have your email.

  2. This is wonderful. I just found your site. I was in Children’s Ministry also for many years before the Lord called me to teach. I’ve been teaching 9 years in a public charter school here in Southern California. I’m passionate about reaching out to other Christian teachers as we shine for Jesus in our classrooms. Thank you for your faithfulness to Him
